An alarm is only useful if people notice it. On a process deck with compressors running, in a turbine hall, or in a storage area in a hazardous zone, that is harder than it sounds. e2S Warning Signals, based in London, designs sounders and beacons for exactly these places, with certification for explosive atmospheres and for marine use.

e2S product families

e2S divides its hazardous area range by enclosure material, and the choice matters in practice:

  • GNEx — glass-reinforced polyester (GRP). Light, easy to mount and resistant to corrosion, which makes it popular offshore and on coastal sites around the Caspian.
  • BEx — aluminium explosion-proof signals, including high-output alarm horns and xenon or LED beacons. Our catalogue includes the BExS110 alarm horn sounder and the BExBGL2 LED beacon.
  • STEx — stainless steel, for specifications that call for a metal enclosure in corrosive conditions.
  • D2x — heavy-duty signals for non-hazardous industrial and marine areas, such as the 116 dB(A) D2xS1 sounder.

Combined units put a sounder and a beacon in one enclosure, which halves the number of cable entries and mounting points. Manual call points and junction boxes complete the system.

Getting the specification right

Three questions decide most e2S selections:

  1. Where is it going? The zone, gas group and temperature class define which certification is acceptable. Our article on ATEX and IECEx marking explains how to read the label.
  2. How loud and how bright? Sound output, tone and light output must be matched to background noise and distance. We explain the method in choosing explosion-proof sounders and beacons.
  3. What will drive it? Supply voltage, current, tone switching and line monitoring must match the fire and gas panel or control system.

Where can I buy e2S sounders and beacons in Baku?

How loud does an alarm sounder need to be?

It needs to be clearly audible above the background noise where people are working. A common rule is at least 10–15 dB above ambient, and noise drops by about 6 dB each time the distance doubles. In very noisy areas, sound alone is not enough and beacons are added. Our guide to choosing sounders and beacons explains the calculation.

What is the difference between GNEx, BEx and STEx?

All three are explosion-proof ranges. GNEx uses glass-reinforced polyester, which is light and does not corrode; BEx uses an aluminium enclosure; STEx uses stainless steel. The choice depends on the environment, the specification and the mounting.

Are xenon or LED beacons better?

LED beacons have a long service life and low current draw, while xenon strobes give a very bright, short flash. The deciding factors are the required light output, power budget and maintenance access. We compare effective light output rather than joule ratings alone.

Can e2S signals be connected to our existing fire and gas panel?

Usually yes. Most e2S signals accept standard DC or AC supplies and can be switched by relay or panel outputs, and many models offer multiple tones or stages. We check voltage, current and monitoring requirements before supply.
