Some rooms cannot wait for smoke to reach a ceiling detector. In a data centre or a control room, strong ventilation dilutes smoke and carries it away; in a high-bay warehouse the smoke may never rise that far. Securiton, a Swiss manufacturer established in 1948 and part of the Swiss Securitas Group, specialises in detection for these places.

SecuriSmoke aspirating smoke detection

An aspirating smoke detection (ASD) system pulls air through a network of pipes with small sampling holes and analyses it in one sensitive detector. The SecuriSmoke ASD 531, 532 and 535 models cover small rooms to large areas, with pipe networks of up to 300 m on the larger units. Because the detector is sensitive and the air is sampled continuously, smoke can be detected at a very early stage — while there is still time to find the cause.

SecuriSens linear heat detection

Where smoke detection is unreliable — tunnels, car parks, conveyor belts, cable trays or dusty areas — line-type heat detection follows the risk along its full length. SecuriSens systems are used in road and rail tunnels and industrial conveyors, a good fit for infrastructure and transport projects.

Design matters more than hardware

An ASD system works only if the pipe network is calculated correctly: hole sizes, pipe lengths and fan settings decide the sensitivity at each hole and the time it takes smoke to reach the detector. We use the manufacturer’s design software, then prove the result at commissioning with smoke and transport time tests from the far end of each pipe.

Securiton in Azerbaijan — questions and answers

Where is aspirating smoke detection used?

Where very early warning matters or point detectors are impractical: data centres, telecom and control rooms, clean rooms, high-bay warehouses, cold stores, heritage buildings and areas with high airflow. ASD finds smoke at very low concentrations, often before a fire is visible.

How is an ASD system different from ordinary smoke detectors?

A fan draws air continuously through a pipe with small sampling holes to one central detector. Each hole acts like a detection point, but the sensitive unit can be installed where it is easy to reach for maintenance.

What does EN 54-20 class A, B or C mean?

They are sensitivity classes. Class A is very high sensitivity for early warning in special environments, class B is enhanced sensitivity, and class C covers normal sensitivity comparable to point detectors. The design must also keep transport time within limits — 120 seconds is the usual maximum.

Can Securiton detection be connected to our existing fire alarm panel?

In most cases yes, via relay or interface modules. For larger systems SecuriFire can act as the main control. We check compatibility before design.

Do you maintain ASD systems?

Yes. We check airflow, clean or replace filters, test transport time from the far end of each pipe and record the results.
